![]() My small sister Rehana is getting married on the first day of the new year, 2011. Preparations as early as September, I think, were underway - from food to the wedding location, mak andam, costumes and invitations. Though all of our family members and relatives contributed in our little ways to help prepare for the big day, the biggest credit I felt is most deserving to my mother. She did A LOT, subhanallah~ She was the one that did the wedding gifts decorations (gubahan), sent the cards for printing, traveled with my sister to run errands and such. Not to mention preparing dinner and breakfast almost every day. On top of that, my mother performed her hajj with my father this year, alhmdlh. I came to this theory that no other woman can ever replace your mother - I felt, not even your wife. (Though, she will become a mother by default anyway) I stumbled upon a hadith, Abu Hurairah (may god be pleased with him) reported: A person came to Rasulullah (pbuh) and asked, "Who amongst the people is most deserving of my fine treatment?'' Rasulullah said, "Your mother". He again asked, "Who next?'' "Your mother," the Prophet replied again. He asked, "Who next?'' He (the Prophet) said again, "Your mother.'' He again asked, "Then who?'' Thereupon he said,'' Then your father.'' The pedestal, a position of high regards that god gave to all mothers is beyond question. For a person who has been with you since you were still in a womb and one that watches you grow and knows your strengths and weakness - subhanallah.. A challenge for me is to find a wife - that would resemble my mother in at least, her spirits and drive. I believe that to judge and tell how good your future wife will be, is by looking at how good her mother is. With a solid upbringing a mother provides, she would have endowed the same positive vibes to her own child, bi-idznillah~ If I ever were to love a woman, it is because I love her mother... - remykm _____________________ "And among His signs is that He has created for you, from yourselves mates, that you may incline towards them and find tranquility in them and He has engendered love and compassion between you.
